Demir Kapija
An Iron Gate, built over the foundation of the ancient city Prosek; a national monument of nature and an ornithological reserve, home to many rare species of birds and endemic plants; gate to the longest gorge in the southern Balkan region; and home of endless vineyards… only a few announcement of the city Demir Kapija, the smallest city along the river Vardar and the E-75 highway in Macedonia. Place where you can enjoy relaxing enduro rides to the old historical villages, the "Ergela" locality, the White water and Dragon caves, the fortress Prosek, monasteries St. Nikolas and Sv. Gjorgi in Klisura and Dracevica… taste local traditional food and some of the best wines in the region.

Overlooking the city, on a strategic hill that was used in history as a watch point, stands the tower of the winery Popova Kula (priests tower). The Popova Kula Winery and vineyards are located on the south slopes of the Grand Hill (Veliko Brdo) west of the lovely town.
Popova Kula Winery is a Greenfield project. They have started the construction of the winery on 08 Oct. 2004 and by St. Mary's Day 28.Aug.2005 they were ready for the first harvest and processing of the first grape.
With the first phase completed and full production capabilities they had to work for two more years until they started the wine tourism part of the winery.  Finally on St. Trifun's day 14.Feb.2009 they completed the construction of the hotel and the restaurant.
The Popova Kula Hotel offers unique experience to its guests with its distinct 4 suites and 7 rooms, each carefully named after, and decorated in the colours of the wine type they represent. Each is equipped with telephone and internet connection, air conditioning and balcony giving view to the breathtaking surroundings - true enjoyment for nature lovers.
Next to the reception of the hotel there is a wine & gifts shop where you could buy their wines at discounted prices and also different gifts.
The restaurant is a place where taste and elegance meet Macedonian tradition and charm. It has a seating capacity of up to 60 people and the summer terrace has capacity of up to 80 people with the most fascinating view of the surrounding.
You can choose meals between traditional Macedonian and other international cuisines combined with their wines. For complete enjoyment, the wine testing sessions are held in the 17 meter high Popova Kula Tower, offering 360 degrees marvellous spectacle of the natural ambiance.
A place we visited, and for sure we will visit again…
